Meet the Principal

Greetings, Travis Science Academy Families -

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

I am honored to serve as your principal at Travis Science Academy (TSA). Prior to being named principal of TSA in July, 2014, I served Temple ISD as an administrator for five years. My educational experience includes working as a teacher leader at Iduma Elementary in Killeen ISD. Iduma Elementary is authorized in the International Baccalaureate (IB), Primary Years Programme. Further, I served in Temple ISD as the Assistant Principal at Thornton Elementary, and the Associate Principal at Temple High School - one of the longest serving International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme campuses in the state. We were able to utilize these experiences as we prepared to become a fully Authorized IB World School in 2015.

Passion for learning drives my desire to lead, as TSA’s principal, partnering with each of you, TSA staff and district leadership teams to continue to serve your students and TSA families. I had the opportunity to work with many of you and your children as an administrator at Thornton Elementary or Temple High School and have enjoyed serving TSA students and families in this role.

TSA families and students have many reasons to celebrate.

  • TSA was one of 727 schools across the state of Texas named to the 2016 Texas Honor Roll, presented by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Institute for Productivity in Education (IPE). The 2016 Honor Roll recognizes public elementary, middle, and high schools that demonstrate consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. The ERP shared,  “After an extensive analysis of student data for every public school in Texas, [Travis Science Academy is a] clear leader in getting students to grade level and beyond."
  • TSA became a fully Authorized Middle Years Programme (MYP) Campus in July 2015. Check out  the IB MYP tab to learn more about the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Middle Years Programme.

  • TSA students have experienced academic success over the past several years. This success continued and was evident in our Spring 2017 STAAR results. We expect TSA will receive the highest academic rating assigned by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) when ratings are released August 15, 2017. This will mark the fifth year in a row Travis students have performed at the highest academic level under the instructional leadership of TSA staff. In addition, the campus received three Distinction Designations by outperforming the majority of other campuses within TSA's campus group from across the state.

  • Both the TSA Math Counts and Robotics teams advanced to their respective state level competitions for the third year in a row this past spring.

  • This will be our fifth school year to implement Project Lead the Way.

These are a few of the many highlights and accomplishments we have experienced over the past school year and I look forward to adding to this list as we continue to recognize and honor the success of our students and campus in the weeks and months to come.

We would welcome the opportunity to personally show off the success of our students; please do not hesitate to let us know if you would like to meet with us or come by to tour TSA. For now, you can learn more about our campus by checking out our archived newsletters stored in the Principal's Corner on the campus homepage.

Until then, as we say at TSA -

It is always a GREAT day to be a Mustang!
