Susan passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer.
She taught 7th grade Language and Literature/English for the last five years at Travis Science Academy.
Susan is being remembered for who she was both as a teacher and as a person.
Travis Science Academy Principal Kristina Carter said, “Ms. Young was warm, caring, loving and I think the biggest thing that stood out was her courage to continue acting in that way despite all the challenges she was dealt”
While battling cancer, Susan continued to pursue her passion, making sure her students succeeded. She was on campus until just over a month ago.
“She was very passionate about teaching. She wanted to make sure that she could give not just all of herself, but that her kids had the ability to think and learn for themselves,” said Assistant Principal Amanda Winkler.
Extra counselors will be on hand at the school tomorrow for students, staff and parents.
