Students Prepare for STAAR Testing

The state of Texas measures students mastery of specific knowledge and skills as defined in the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) through the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness or STAAR.

Students are assessed in core subject areas - reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. The number of tests a student takes each year ranges from two to four depending on the grade level:

You can general STAAR resources on the Texas Education Website (link to the STAAR Resources page on TEA).

STAAR testing dates are established by the Texas Education Agency. STAAR assessments have a four-hour time limit and campuses run altered bell schedules on days of STAAR testing as a result. See the campus calendar for exact STAAR assessment dates.

As always, we encourage students to get a solid night of rest the night before and eat a healthy breakfast the morning of the assessment.

Please refer to the resources section of the TEA website (link to the website) or visit with your child’s teacher if you have questions about a specific STAAR assessment.
