The law of conservation of energy states that matter cannot be created or destroyed, but rather transforms from one form to another. Our 6th grade science students are learning and applying this concept in their science classes while performing the "egg drop". Students are given a set of materials and a 30 minute time limit and have to create a device that will allow for a raw egg to be protected after being released from the 2nd floor balcony of our school. Students will then have to explain how potential energy is transformed into kinetic energy, and hope their egg survives the fall in order to win a class friendly competition!
