Meet the Librarian

Hello! I'm Milissa Beechem, the librarian at Travis Science Academy.  My role is to support students and staff by providing access to a wide range of resources and materials that enhance learning experiences. I'm passionate about fostering a love for reading and research among students, and I strive to create an inviting and resource-rich environment in the library. I have a bachelor's degree from Baylor University and a master's degree in Library Science from Sam Houston State University. This is my 6th year as a librarian, and before that, I taught high school for 16 years. When I am not serving in the library, I am a wife of 35 years to my best friend, Michael. I have one married daughter, and a new granddaughter this year. I love spending time with my family and friends, helping people, reading, singing, decorating, traveling, and learning new things!

• The goals of our library are:
• To instill in students a desire to be lifelong readers and pursuers of knowledge;
• To acquire and maintain a balanced collection of resources, representing a wide range of subjects, difficulty levels, and formats;
• To provide learning experiences which encourage students to grow in their use of information literacy skills;
• To support the curriculum needs of Travis Science Academy teachers, students, staff, and community.
