Communities in Schools

Communities In Schools (CIS) is a community-based organization helping kids succeed in school and prepare for life. It’s nonprofit, nonpartisan, and dedicated to ending the dropout epidemic in the United States. Kelci Bledsoe is the CIS Coordinator for Travis Science Academy. Essential Services

CIS provides essential services that allow teachers to focus on teaching and students to focus on learning by addressing the following issues:

Academics:

• Immediate support for students
• Initial parental involvement
• Monitoring academics directly until progress is evident

• Works with students, parents and judicial system
• Research the cause of absence(s)
• Address issues via counseling
• Directly monitor attendance until issue is resolved

• Work with disorderly students
• Research cause of behavior
• Address issues via counseling
• Get students back in class and ready to learn
